Boeing Quality Chief to Retire Amid Ongoing Safety Scrutiny, Labor Challenges

Boeing’s head of quality for commercial airplanes, Elizabeth Lund, will retire in December, according to a statement released by Boeing Monday. Lund, a 33-year veteran of the aerospace giant, was appointed to the newly created position of senior vice president of quality for commercial planes in February, leading the company’s improvement plans. The company announced the appointment in wake of a crisis triggered by the mid-air panel blowout on an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 on Jan. 5. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) accused Boeing of violating investigation rules in June when Lund provided non-public information to media outlets and commented on possible reasons for the blowout.
