
Israel Passes Law Allowing Deportation of Terrorists’ Families

Israel’s Knesset passed a law on Nov. 7 allowing it to deport family members of Palestinian terrorists to the war-torn Gaza Strip or elsewhere. The measure, passed by a 61–41 vote after an all-night filibuster by the opposition, extends to those who are Israeli citizens or residents of east Jerusalem, who are eligible for citizenship but have often chosen to remain as permanent residents. About 20 percent of Israel’s citizens are Arabs. The measure is likely to be challenged in court.
