
University Tuition Fees to Rise to £9,535 a Year
Undergraduate home tuition fees in England will rise in line with inflation to £9,535 a year from April 2025, Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson has confirmed. Phillipson made the announcement in the House of Commons on Monday, saying that the increase of £285 per academic year was needed to “fix the foundations” and “secure the future of higher education.” This is the first time that tuition fees have risen in eight years, after the Conservatives froze fees at £9,250 in 2017 under Prime Minister Theresa May. In a bid to support students with living costs, the minister also announced that the maximum maintenance loan will be increased in line with inflation, which according to the Department for Education could provide as much as £414 extra per year to help students from the lowest income families....
