
India, China Reach Border Patrol Deal Ahead of BRICS Summit
New Delhi and Beijing have reached an agreement on patrolling the contested border in the remote Himalayan region, India’s top diplomat said on Monday. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced the new agreement during a special press conference on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming trip to the BRICS summit. Misri said Indian and Chinese diplomatic and military representatives engaged in numerous dialogues over the past few weeks. “As a result of these discussions, an agreement has been arrived at on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control in the India–China border areas, leading to disengagement and a resolution of the issues that had arisen in these areas in 2020,” Misri told reporters, without offering further details....
