
Santa Monica College Employee Wounded in Shooting; Campuses Closed

SANTA MONICA, Calif.—Santa Monica College is closed Tuesday after an employee was shot on campus by an assailant who is still at large. The shooting was reported around 9:50 p.m. Monday at the Center for Media & Design in the 1600 block of Stewart Street. “The Santa Monica Police Department is investigating the incident,” according to a statement on SMC’s website. “Law enforcement is actively searching for a suspect.” The shooting was a workplace violence incident and not a random act of violence, according to KNX, which cited the chief of police for Santa Monica College.
