
Tunisian President Set for Re-election After Opposition Boycott Elections
Tunisia’s President Kais Saied is set to be re-elected after exit polls showed he achieved a landslide victory against his two opponents in Sunday’s election. Exit polls from Sigma Conseil, an independent firm, suggested that Saied, 66, won 89 percent of the vote, decisively defeating Zouhair Maghzaoui—a former ally turned critic—and Ayachi Zammel, who sat out the election after being handed a 12-year prison sentence for violating election laws last month. Three other leading politicians were barred from standing, and most of the main opposition parties urged their supporters to boycott the election.
