News Analysis Turkish organized crime is expanding its operations across Europe, especially in countries with large Turkish and Kurdish minorities, and has diversified from the heroin trade to dealing in cocaine, methamphetamine, and synthetic drugs. Two murders—one in Barcelona, Spain, and one in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau—and a shooting in London, which led to a 9-year-old girl being critically injured, between May and July were all tied to Turkish organized crime.
