Growing Number of Adults Have ‘Raised Cholesterol’ Survey Finds

A growing proportion of adults has raised cholesterol, according to data released by NHS England, which also show rates of obesity have remained high. Many health experts dispute whether high cholesterol is bad for us, with some doctors challenging the claimed benefits of cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as statins. This is not addressed in the report by the Health Survey for England, released on Tuesday, on which the figures are based. More than half (53 percent) of adults in England were classed as having raised cholesterol in 2022, up from 43 percent in 2019, according to the new figures.
