Man Travels 37,000 Miles Hand-Delivering Postcards Inspired by 200-Year-Old Tradition: The Galapagos Postman

Published on September 17, 2024

As part of a 200-year-old tradition, a man is traveling 37,000 miles around the world, hand-delivering postcards that were left on a remote Pacific island. Londoner Jonny Beardmore, 51, has spent the last five months visiting countries across the globe after taking it upon himself to become “the Galapagos postman.” He collected 50 letters from an ancient postbox—in a place known as Post Office Bay—on Isla Floreana, in the Galapagos Archipelago, and is now delivering them by hand over the next 12 months. Since setting off in March, the one-man delivery service has been knocking unannounced on the intended recipients’ doors—from the United States to Iceland to Brazil. Beardmore will continue his journey for 365 days across seven continents until he drops off his final letter on March 1, 2025....
