23andMe proposes to compensate millions of customers affected by a data breach on the company’s platform, and pay $30 million as part of the settlement along with providing users access to a security monitoring system. The genetic testing service will pay the amount to approximately 6.4 million American users of the platform, according to a proposed class action settlement filed in a federal court for the Northern District of California on Sept. 12. Personal information regarding customers was exposed last year after a hacker breached the website’s security, and posted critical user data for sale on the dark web.
