Cooler Temperatures Arriving in Southern California, but Fire Danger Still High

LOS ANGELES—After a week of often-oppressive heat, cooler temperatures were expected to give the Southland a cool-down starting Wednesday, but forecasters warned that the fire danger will remain elevated in some areas due to continued dry conditions. A red flag warning of heightened fire danger will be in effect until noon Wednesday for the San Gabriel Mountains, the Antelope Valley foothills, and the 5 and 14 freeway corridors “Despite the cooling conditions, very dry air at elevations above 2,000 feet has settled in, with fairly widespread humidities between 5 and 15 percent common over the mountains through early Wednesday,” according to the National Weather Service....
