1 in 5 Secondary School Pupils Using Phones Near Roads Hit or Narrowly Missed by Vehicles: Survey

One in five secondary school pupils, distracted on the phone, have either been hit or narrowly missed by vehicles, a survey has found. A poll by Churchill motor insurance said that 84 percent of secondary pupils admitted having their eyes on the phone screen when walking near roads. Some 18 percent have been hit by a vehicle or were nearly missed. Research shows that a tenth of children, studied in a mobile phone usage analysis, were filmed crossing the road outside their school while glued to their phones. More than 69 percent of children admit they are not aware of their surroundings, while distracted on their phone and walking on the street.
