
Top EU Court Orders Apple to Pay $14.4 Billion in Back Taxes

The European Union’s highest court on Tuesday ruled that Apple must pay more than $14 billion in back taxes to Ireland that the California-based tech giant had long contested. The European Court of Justice’s order was issued hours after Apple unveiled new products during an event that included latest versions of the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPod. Apple shares have been down about 1.2 percent over the past five days. The case stems from a 2016 decision made by the European Commission that ordered Apple to pay Ireland 13 billion euros ($14.4 billion) in unpaid taxes.
