Two US Marines Ambushed, Assaulted by Mob in Turkey

A pair of United States Marines in western Turkey have been ambushed and assaulted by members of a local anti-American group, officials have confirmed. The U.S. Embassy in Turkey said in a Sept. 2 statement on social media platform X that the two service members were from the USS Wasp, a multipurpose amphibious assault ship currently docked in the port city of Izmir. “We can confirm reports that U.S. service members embarked aboard the USS Wasp were the victims of an assault in İzmir today, and are now safe,” the embassy said. “We thank Turkish authorities for their rapid response and ongoing investigation.”...
