
Ex-Police Officer Gets Sentenced for Stealing Cocaine From Lockup, Reselling It
SANTA ANA, Cailf.—A former Inglewood Police Department officer was sentenced Aug. 27 to two and a half years in federal prison for stealing cocaine from the department’s lock-up and reselling it on the street. John Abel Baca, 48, of Whittier, then a 21-year veteran of the Inglewood Police Department (IPD) and its union representative, was also ordered to pay a $40,000 fine by U.S. District Judge James Selna. Baca pleaded guilty Oct. 17, 2023 to distributing cocaine on two occasions. On April 29, 2021, Baca delivered cocaine to a witness cooperating with law enforcement. Baca then delivered 2.2 pounds of cocaine to the same cooperating witness during a meeting the following week in exchange for $22,000 in cash, according to his plea agreement....
