Iowa Court Rules TikTok Must Face Suit Alleging It Promotes Inappropriate Content to Minors

A district court in Iowa rejected a petition from TikTok to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the state, which accuses the company of enabling minors to access inappropriate content. In January, the State of Iowa sued TikTok and parent firm Bytedance, claiming that the defendants violated the Consumer Fraud Act “through misrepresentations, deceptions, false promises, and unfair practices,” according to an Aug. 26 ruling. Specifically, it alleged that TikTok acted in a deceptive manner to get a 12+ rating on the App Store, which allowed 13- to 17-year-old Iowans to sign up for the service and access content that the state claims is inappropriate for minors....
