Emergency Disaster Declared by Alaska’s Governor After Deadly Landslide

Alaska’s governor on Monday morning declared a disaster following a landslide that left at least one person dead and three injured in the city of Ketchikan. “My thoughts and prayers are with the residents of Ketchikan tonight,” Gov. Mike Dunleavy said as he issued the declaration, adding that the landslide on Sunday damaged infrastructure. “In addition to the disaster declaration, I have directed state agencies to make available all resources and staff for the response effort.” Officials issued an evacuation order for areas affected by the landslide and opened a shelter at the city’s high school.
