Texas AG Sues General Motors Over Car Data Tracking

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing General Motors (GM) and its subsidiary OnStar LLC, accusing the automotive giant of engaging in deceptive practices related to the collection and sale of customer data. The lawsuit, filed Aug. 13 in a state district court in Montgomery County, Texas, alleges that GM has been unlawfully collecting, storing, and selling data from millions of its customers without informed consent. According to the filing, this data included information such as vehicle speed, seat belt status, distance driven, and trip start and end times. The collected data was then sold to third-party companies, including insurance firms, the complaint states....
