Pakistan’s Former Spy Chief Arrested Over Land Development Raid

The former chief of Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been detained by the military and charged in connection with a raid on a private housing development. Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed, who took early retirement in 2022, will face court martial proceedings. It is rare for a senior officer to be charged in Pakistan, a country where the army is highly influential and has mounted numerous coups to remove elected governments over the years. The exact charges Hameed faces have not been specified but a statement on the website of the army’s Inter-Services Public Relations agency stated: “Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by the Pakistan Army, to ascertain the correctness of complaints in Top City case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd).”...
