
South Korea Holds Emergency Meeting on EV Fire Risk After Over 100 Cars Damaged in Apartment Blaze

South Korea held an emergency meeting Aug. 12 to discuss fire safety in the wake of a massive blaze in an underground garage beneath an apartment block caused by an electric vehicle that caught fire. The fire in the city of Incheon on Aug. 1 took eight hours to extinguish. Dozens of residents in the apartment block were evacuated, and 140 cars were destroyed or damaged in the blaze. The fire appeared to start spontaneously in a Mercedes-Benz EV. Images published in South Korean media showed dozens of charred cars in the parking lot, reduced only to their metal frames.
