
Paris 2024: Team Canada Weightlifter Maude Charron Wins Silver, Volleyball Duo Head to Gold Medal Match
Canada’s Maude Charron has earned a silver in the 59-kilogram weightlifting class at the Paris Olympics, while volleyball duo Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson have gold in their sights heading into the finals. Charron, from Rimouski, Que., was also the flag bearer for Team Canada during the 2024 Opening Ceremony. In the snatch portion of the weightlifting event, she started with a 101 kilogram (223 pound), weight. For the clear and jerk portion of the competition, Charron did her first lift with 126 kilograms (278 pounds). Her second left was 130 kilograms or 237 pounds. In Charron’s final attempt, she tried to lift 132 kilograms (291 pounds). Although she hefted the barbell to her shoulders, she couldn’t complete the jerk portion of the lift and fell backward to the floor....
