NSW Government Seeking to Put State CFMEU Branch Into Administration

The New South Wales (NSW) government has asked the NSW Industrial Court to appoint an administrator for the state’s construction and general division of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU). This follows similar action to the federal court by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) last week. The joint action is needed because the union’s NSW branch has dual registration under the federal and NSW industrial relations systems. In addition, a Bill will be introduced into parliament to amend the Industrial Relations Act to ensure there are no doubts about the administrator’s validity or powers.
