Off-Duty LA County Sheriff’s Sergeant Killed in Crash

VALENCIA, Calif.—An off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeant was killed in a single-vehicle traffic collision in Valencia, authorities announced Aug. 2. The crash occurred about 11 p.m. on Aug. 1 near McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It was unclear what caused the crash. Investigators identified the deputy as 43-year-old Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau Sgt. Jason Viger. He joined the department in 2008 and held positions at the North County Correctional Facility, Palmdale Station, Lancaster Station, Narcotics Bureau, and most recently, the Homicide Bureau. “We are deeply saddened to announce the tragic death of one of our valued department members, Homicide Bureau Sgt.
