As athletes prepare to compete in the Paris Summer Olympics this week, the International Olympic Committee formally announced that the 2034 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will return to the United States. In an announcement on July 23, the IOC announced that Salt Lake City, Utah, will host the games in 2034. Salt Lake City had previously hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 2002. The games will be the second scheduled for the United States in the next decade—Los Angeles is the host city for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
