
Violence Against Women a ‘National Emergency’ in Line With Terrorism Say Police
Police chiefs have declared violence against women and girls a “national emergency,” prioritising it alongside terrorism. More than one million violent crimes against women and girls were recorded by police in 2022/2023, according to a report commissioned by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and the College of Policing released on Monday. Police said that they are calling for a new “whole-system approach” to deal with “epidemic levels.” This means that police forces will now need to prioritise their response to violence against women and girls (VAWG) as they do terrorism and serious and organised crime.
