New Tory Party Leader to Be Announced on Nov. 2

The Conservative Party will appoint its new leader on Nov. 2, the party announced on Monday. The 1922 Committee of backbench MPs agreed on the rules and timeline for the contest following the crushing general election defeat earlier this month. Nominations for Rishi Sunak’s replacement will kick off on Wednesday evening and close on the afternoon of July 29. To qualify, each candidate will require a proposer, a seconder and eight nominations.
