Social Security Says Offices Closed, Online Services Unavailable Amid Worldwide Tech Outage

The Social Security Administration (SSA) closed its local offices on Friday in the midst of a worldwide tech outage impacting CrowdStrike and Microsoft services, it announced in a statement. The agency confirmed that due to the “worldwide IT outage, local Social Security offices are closed to the public” on July 19. From the statement, it’s not clear when the local offices will be reopened. Members of the public should also expect “longer wait times” for its national phone number and that “some online services are unavailable at this time.” The agency did not elaborate on what online services won’t be available and when they will be restored....
