Drone Food Delivery Service Launches in Melbourne

Thousands of people living in Melbourne’s East will be able to get their food delivered to their doors by drones from July 18. The drones will transport small orders from a variety of outlets in Eastland Shopping Centre—one of the largest shopping centres in Australia. The delivery is expected to come in 15 minutes or less—faster than traditional car delivery. It comes as part of a partnership between DoorDash and Wing, a subsidiary of Google’s parent company Alphabet. To access the service, customers can click the drone icon on the DoorDash app and order from retailers who’ve opted into Wing’s service.
