Two mothers and an 8-year-old child were just a few of the 19 killed in Chicago over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling and Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a press conference on July 8. The officials addressed the surge in violence and outlined the city’s ongoing efforts to combat gun violence and to support affected communities.
