Beryl Maintains Hurricane Strength as It Pushes Deeper Into Texas

Hurricane Beryl retains its Category 1 status three hours after landfall at 4 a.m. (CT) on the Texas Gulf Coast and crawling closer to Houston. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is reporting maximum sustained winds of 75 mph with higher gusts, down from the 80 mph reported at 7 a.m. As of 7 a.m., the storm center was 40 miles southeast of Houston, heading nearly straight north at 12 mph. However, radar shows the outer bands covering the Houston and Galveston Bay areas, and hurricane-force winds were recorded to extend 45 miles out from the center.
