NDIS Minister Bill Shorten has dismissed media reports claiming that Western Australia (WA) Senator Fatima Payman was pressured to resign from the Senate over her views on Palestinian statehood. The speculation around Ms. Payman’s potential exile circulated after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on June 30 suspended the Afghan-born Australian politician indefinitely from the caucus during a meeting at the Lodge in Canberra. This came as a response to Ms. Payman’s interview with ABC’s Insiders on the same day in which she said she would cross the floor in the Senate again to support recognition of a Palestinian state. Ms. Payman claimed she had since been ostracised from her colleagues, while the prime minister argued Ms. Payman had chosen to “disrupt” the party lines....
