Man Dies After Another Man Intervened in Alleged Assault on Ex-Girlfriend

DUARTE, Calif.—An investigation was continuing June 27 into the death of a man who allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend in Los Angeles County and then fell unconscious during a subsequent struggle with another man who intervened in the attack. Deputies were dispatched around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday to the 2500 block of Maynard Drive, south of Mount Olive Drive, in Duarte, where they found the victim unresponsive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff’s officials said the unidentified man initially confronted then began assaulting his ex-girfriend, prompting another man—who was acquainted with the estranged couple—to intervene.
