
Death of 4-Year-Old From Falling Bookcase Prompts Recall
Bookcases made by a Boise, Idaho-based furniture company are being recalled nationwide after a four-year-old child was killed when an unanchored unit tipped over, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said on June 27. The “Hayden Bookcase” made by Dania Furniture is “unstable if it is not anchored to the wall, posing tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or serious injuries to children.” The CPSC said Dania Furniture received the single report regarding the tip-over that led to the child’s death in August 2023.
