
San Diego County Life-Term Prisoners Accused of Fatally Stabbing Fellow Inmate
SAN DIEGO—Three prisoners serving life terms for San Diego County murders allegedly stabbed a fellow inmate to death at a Riverside County prison, state prison officials said on June 24. The killing occurred around 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at Ironwood State Prison in Blythe, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). Luis Padilla, 42, was stabbed multiple times and pronounced dead a short time later by medical staff. His three alleged attackers—Juan Madrigal, 26; Jonathan Orduno, 23; and Samuel Ricardez, 28—were detained and two “inmate-manufactured weapons” were recovered. Mr. Madrigal was convicted by a San Diego jury of first-degree murder and was sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison for fatally shooting a man near the Rolando neighborhood in August of 2020....
