Russia and North Korea have signed a comprehensive “strategic partnership” treaty. It mandates that the two countries come to each other’s defense if they are attacked. The deal was made during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s first visit to North Korea in 24 years. The first named tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, Alberto, has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm is bringing strong winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding along the coasts of Texas and Mexico. It’s expected to make landfall in northern Mexico on Thursday. One person is reported to have been killed and more than 500 buildings were burned as two wildfires spread in New Mexico. A mountain village of 7,000 people was forced to evacuate on short notice.
