Canadians across the country will be celebrating dads on June 16 as Father’s Day presents an opportunity to let dads know how much they are loved. The demographics of fatherhood has changed in the country in recent decades, as the average age of fathers continues to increase, according to Statistics Canada. In 2021, most dads were 33 years old at the birth of their first child, which is 2.9 years older than the average 30 years ago. The number of fathers over 35 years of age has doubled in the past three decades, StatCan says, with 39.5 percent of fathers being 35 years or older at the birth of their first child.
