FBI Announces Drop in Violent Crime for First 3 Months

Violent crime dropped in the first three months of 2024 compared with the same period last year, according to statistics the FBI released on June 10. The first quarter of 2024 showed a 15 percent drop in violent crime overall, according to a news release issued by the bureau. That includes a 25.7 percent decline in homicides year-over-year, a 12.5 percent decrease in aggravated assault, and a 17.8 percent decrease in robbery. Property crime reports also decreased by about 15 percent, the figures show. “This data makes clear that last year’s historic decline in violent crime is continuing,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a release issued alongside the report....
