
Australian Lower House Passes Law to Establish Net Zero Authority

The Net Zero Economy Authority bill has passed the lower house of Parliament in Australia with support of the Labor government, the Australian Greens, and “Teal” independents. The legislation (pdf) establishes a government-funded authority overseeing Australia’s transition to a net zero economy and lower emissions reductions. The Liberal-National Coalition opposed the legislation, which sailed through the House of Representatives 82 votes to 51. The Authority will comprise a board, CEO, and staff who will consult and work on driving public and private sector investment in the net zero transformation.
