
Nearly a 3rd of Primary School Teachers Report Pupils Arriving to Class Hungry
New findings from the National Federation for Educational Research (NFER) suggest that a growing number of primary school children are turning up to class hungry. A survey within the report published on Wednesday, which looks at the ongoing effects of the cost-of-living crisis in education, found that 31 percent of teachers said children were increasingly showing up to class hungry, with 40 percent of respondents reporting that students are now arriving to class without adequate clothing. “This report clearly highlights the high level of need among young people, and the risk of it becoming an entrenched and persistent challenge for pupils, families and staff, particularly in more disadvantaged schools,” said NFER’s co-head of UK policy and practice, Jude Hillary in a statement....
