
Canada’s Border Guards Ready for Strike; Job Action Could Begin June 7

The unions representing more than 9,000 Canadian border workers say they will start job action by June 7 if they can’t reach a deal with the government. The Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) said while they hope to avoid strike or job actions—and the resulting border disruptions—a 4 p.m. deadline has been set. “We are still hopeful that we can reach an agreement to avoid strike action and any potential delays at Canada’s borders,” Public Service Alliance of Canada union President Sharon DeSousa said in a press release. “But the clock is ticking for Trudeau’s Liberal government to get to work on a fair contract for our members.”...
