Orthodox Christianity Surging in Canada as Other Denominations Decline: Here’s Why

The struggle between traditional religion and today’s increasingly individualistic beliefs is taking a toll on Christianity in Canada as all Christian denominations decline—except one. And adherents of that denomination say the others may be losing members because they just aren’t traditional enough. Orthodox Christianity, practiced most famously in Greece, Russia, and Eastern Europe, has increased in popularity in recent years in Canada as all other denominations lose members. The number of people identifying as Christian Orthodox increased to 623,000 as of the 2021 census, from 479,600 in 2001, according to Statistics Canada. Orthodox Christianity grew by percentage of population to 1.7 percent in 2021 from 1.6 percent in 2001 and 1.4 percent in 1991....
