The Edinburgh International Book Festival has ended a 20-year funding partnership with sponsors Baillie Gifford following pressure from anti-Israel and climate campaigners. The investment company, which supports eight major literature festivals, has faced pressure from the campaign group Fossil Free Books for its investments in fossil fuels. Edinburgh International Book Festival, the largest festival of its kind in the world, said that “pressure on our team has simply become intolerable.” Alternative Sponsors Fossil Free Books claims that 800 authors and other book workers are demanding organisers find alternative sponsors if Baillie Gifford doesn’t “divest from the fossil fuel industry.” The same group also successfully pressured the Hay Festival to withdraw support from the asset manager last week....
