Top Democrat Calls for DOJ to Lobby for Recusal of Supreme Court Justices

President Joe Biden’s administration should lobby for two Republican-appointed Supreme Court justices to recuse from several key cases, a top Democrat says. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito should not hear cases involving former President Donald Trump’s presidential immunity appeal and the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol, according to a number of Democrats in Congress. They point to Justice Thomas’s wife being involved in the election integrity movement and several flags associated with the movement having been flown outside Justice Alito’s homes. Justice Alito, appointed by former President George W. Bush, on May 29 rejected the calls for recusal. Justice Thomas, appointed by former President George H. W.
