
DOJ Announces Top Mexican Assassin Extradited to US to Face Charges
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that a top assassin for the Sinaloa drug cartel in Mexico was extradited to the United States to face charges. In a news release from the DOJ this weekend, Attorney General Merrick Garland said that Nestor Isidro Perez Salas, known as “El Nini,” was taken to the U.S., noting he was one of the cartel’s top “sicarios, or assassins, and was responsible for the murder, torture, and kidnapping of rivals and witnesses who threatened the cartel’s criminal drug trafficking enterprise.” “We also allege El Nini was a part of the Sinaloa Cartel’s production and sale of fentanyl, including in the United States,” Mr. Garland said, referring to the synthetic opioid drug that has been responsible for hundreds of thousands of drug overdoses across the U.S. in recent years....
