FDA Refuses to Back Novo Nordisk’s Weekly Insulin Product for Diabetics

An advisory panel set up by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted against allowing the use of Novo Nordisk’s weekly insulin product among type 1 diabetic patients as the benefits failed to outweigh the risks. On May 24, the FDA’s Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee met to discuss Novo Nordisk’s “insulin icodec,” a weekly insulin injection. At present, people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes have to resort to multiple insulin injections daily to keep their condition under control.
