Norway, Spain, Ireland to Recognize Palestinian Statehood

Norway, Spain, and Ireland announced on May 22 that they would formally recognize a Palestinian state, prompting Israel to immediately recall its ambassadors to the three nations. The formal recognition will take place on May 28, according to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store. “In the midst of a war, with tens of thousands killed and injured, we must keep alive the only alternative that offers a political solution for Israelis and Palestinians alike: Two states, living side by side, in peace and security,” Mr. Store said in a statement.
