
‘Destabilising Behaviour’: Australia Sanctions Iran Officials Amid Middle East Conflict
The Australian government has imposed sanctions on senior Iran officials amid the conflict in the Middle East pointing to its “destabilising behaviour.” In total, the federal government has now sanctioned 90 individuals and 100 entities with links to Iran. The sanctioned individuals include Iran Defence Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Qods Force commander, Brigadier General Esmail Qaani. “The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps malignant actor that has long been a threat to international security, and to its own people,” said Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong in a statement.
