
Delaware Faces Overdose Surge as Deadly Mix Proves Resistant to Naloxone

Officials in Delaware are alerting the public to a rise in overdoses resistant to the well-known opioid reversal drug Naloxone (Narcan). “[In the last six days,] we’ve seen more than 30 overdoses in our department and in our facility,” Beebe Hospital emergency room Dr. Paul Cowan said at a press conference on May 1 with state officials. “In a typical period of time we may typically see five in that period, so [it’s] a significant increase. These patients are unique in that they are much more critically ill than most patients. “Many of these are requiring long-term care in our intensive care unit. This is a very disturbing trend.”...
