
Carbon Emissions Up Despite Federal Climate Programs

Canada’s carbon emissions are on the rise, despite a number of federal emissions reduction policies, according to a new government report. Only Alberta and Saskatchewan, which are both opposed to the carbon tax, reported lower emissions on an annual basis, the National Inventory Report published by the Department of Environment found. The report, first obtained by Blacklock’s Reporter, blamed the rise in economic activities following the COVID-19 lockdowns for the emissions increase. Greenhouse gas emissions have risen steadily since the end of the pandemic, coming in at 708 million tonnes in 2022, the last year data was available.
