UCLA in ‘Deep Pain’ Following Days of Violence and Division, Says Chancellor

The top official at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) said the community is in “deep pain” after a six-day pro-Palestinian encampment resulted in violence and division for students, faculty, and staff. More than 200 demonstrators who barricaded themselves in Dickson Plaza were arrested by police beginning at 3 a.m. Thursday morning as a massive law enforcement operation cleared the encampment. By sunrise, video and photos of the encampment revealed the plaza was filled with discarded tents, tables, bags, and heaps of garbage and debris.
